Event Description

Millions of voters across the country went to the polls on November 6, 2018 – in this “Year of the Woman Part II” mid-term election. At stake were 36 gubernatorial seats, 38 Attorneys General seats (elected or appointed), 87 state legislative chambers, thousands of city and county seats, 35 U.S. Senate and 435 House seats, and a record number of women candidates running. As the votes in some states are still being counted, incumbents and newly elected officials are wasting no time planning transitions and mapping out strategies for the 2019 legislative sessions.

Our panel of experts will discuss: the results of this unique midterm election – particularly for women candidates; 2019 policy priorities in the cities and states and the influence of the elections on those priorities; and where we need to be focusing our attention in light of competing priorities at every level of government.

Don’t miss this opportunity to consult the experts about issues your states and members care most about!

Join us for pastries and coffee at 8:00a.m. The program will begin promptly at 8:30a.m.

Speakers:

  • Molly Ramsdell, DC Director of State-Federal Affairs, NCSL
  • Irma Esparza Diggs, Senior Executive & Director of Federal Advocacy, NLC
  • Tiffany Shackelford, Chief Strategic Officer, NGA

Moderator: Kelly Dittmar, Assistant Professor of Political Science at Rutgers University and Scholar at the Center for American Women and Politics (CAWP)
